As part to our commitment with the environment and the sustainable tourism, we like to introduce you some organizations and foundations of the country who are dedicated to take care of the natural patrimony:

FONAFIFO

The National Fund of Forestall Financing (FONAFIFO), executes the Payment for Environmental Services Program (PPSA), for the benefit of small and medium landowners of lands with forest or forest aptitude with the purpose of promoting the maintenance and the recovery of the forest of Costa Rica.

FRIENDS OF COCOS ISLAND FOUNDATION

Friends of Cocos Island Foundation (FAICO) which was created in 1994 under the laws of the Republic of Costa Rica is an independent, proactive, non-profit, apolitical and multi-sectorial organization, which is committed to the long-term management, protection and conservation of the Cocos Island National Marine Park, World Natural Heritage Site (UNESCO 1997) and Wetlands of International Importance (RAMSAR 1998). It is integrated by distinguished citizens, businessmen and women, scholars, government officials and nature lovers who make up the General Assembly, the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee. Has an effective and efficient internal organization which also out sources additional resources for defined periods of time to implement specific projects.

FRIENDS OF THE OSA

Friends of the Osa (FOO) – Amigos de Osa – was founded in 2003 as a nonprofit organization with a goal to preserve the Osa peninsula's globally significant biodiversity. FOO maintains a small office in Washington, D.C. with larger staff based on the Osa Peninsular – in Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica.

MARVIVA

MarViva is non-profit, non-governmental organization that works together with the authorities and communities to protect marine and costal resources along the Eastern Tropical Pacific and the Caribbean.

CORCOVADO FOUNDATION

The Corcovado Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of the natural resources in the Osa Peninsula, especially in government protected areas such as Corcovado and Piedras Blancas National Park, Golfo Dulce Forestry Reserve, Caño Island Biological Reserve and Golfito Wildlife Refuge. With the support of donors and NGOs, such as The Nature Conservancy, Conservation International and others, we have hired 72 park rangers and other important positions such us environmental educators, forestry engineers and environmental lawyers. We are also promoting "Best Practices" and sustainable tourism among hotels in Drake Bay and the Osa Peninsula. We have an environmental educator working permanently in Drake Bay promoting community development, recycling and other important topics.

MONTEVERDE CONSERVATION LEAGUE

The Monteverde Conservation League (MCL) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of the tropical forest. Our mission is to Conserve, Preserve, and Rehabilitate Tropical Ecosystems and their Biodiversity.

ORGANIZATION FOR TROPICAL STUDIES

The Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS) is a nonprofit consortium of nearly sixty universities, colleges, and research institutions from around the world. In the early 1960's, scientists from U.S. universities forged working relationships with colleagues at the Universidad de Costa Rica in the interest of strengthening education and research in tropical biology. Intense interest, both in the U.S. and in Costa Rica, led to the founding of OTS in 1963. OTS was founded to provide leadership in education, research and the responsible use of natural resources in the tropics.
