RAINFOREST EXPERIENCE

Visit Tortuguero, Arenal, Monteverde and Manuel Antonio. 12 days / 11 nights.

We start this Costa Rica experience in Tortuguero. Its network of canals, dense rainforests and many other attractions are visited by thousands of tourists every year. Tortuguero beach is the most important nesting site of the endangered green turtle in the western hemisphere. Afterwards, to Arenal with its spectacular volcano which almost on a daily basis, red-hot rocks crash down its steep slopes and volcanic grumbles produce huge ash columns above the crater. Then to the spectacular Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve is a very important and popular ecotourism destination in Costa Rica. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve is one of the most stunning and breathtaking nature reserves in the entire world. Finally you get to visit Manuel Antonio with its series of small beaches and bays surrounded by luscious rainforest: North Espadilla Beach, South Espadilla Beach, Manuel Antonio Beach, Puerto Escondido Beach & Playitas Beach, all of them safe for swimming and great for diving and exploring coral reefs or surfing in your next Costa Rica Vacation.

ITINERARY

Day 1 | San José

Arrival and a representative from MTA Travel Solutions will assist you and take you to your hotel in San José. Overnight in San José.


Day 2 | San Jose | Irazu Volcano | Orosi Valley

Breakfast and then to enjoy a tour to the Irazu Volcano, Orosi Valley and Lankester Gardens. The trip begins ascending the breathtaking summit of the Irazú Volcano for a view of the massive crater. On a clear day you can actually see the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans! After an exciting tour at the volcano, we will descend to the historical city of Cartago. Here we will visit the mysterious ruins of the old Parish and view the beautiful Basilica of our "Virgen de los Angeles" with rich displays of carvings, statues and art. After our visit to the Basílica de Los Angeles we will drive to the Lankester Gardens. The Lankester Gardens are a Tropical Paradise featuring over 800 varieties of exotic orchids, various tropical flowers and plant life. This tour continues with a ride through the unique beauty of the famous Orosi Valley and Reventazón River. The area is noted for its rich soil, abundant plant life and the outstanding coffee plantations. We will have a stop for lunch in a restaurant surrounded by beautiful coffee plantations and an excellent view to the Cachí Lake. Along the way, we will visit one of the oldest colonial churches and see the enchanting "Dreamers House". Overnight in San José. (B, L)


Day 3 | San Jose | Tortuguero

Early departure to Tortuguero by land through the exuberant Braulio Carrillo National Park (typical Costa Rican breakfast included during the way). After a delicious lunch, take an afternoon tour to Tortuguero town, starting at the entrance to the beach in front of the hotel, and visit the Caribbean Conservation Corporation Museum and the village. Then Return by boat to the lodge for free time and to enjoy the pool area and surroundings. Dinner at lodge. Overnight in Tortuguero. (B, L, D)


Day 4 | Tortuguero

Early meeting for coffee and then a morning boat tour through the Tortuguero Canals. Return to the lodge to take a delicious breakfast and to departure by boat to the Tortuguero Hill or the National Park, where you will enjoy a hiking trip in the trails. After lunch take an afternoon canal boat tour and then return to the lodge for relaxation and dinner. At night you can take an optional night tour to search the turtle nesting (during season July - September). Overnight in Tortuguero. (B, L, D)


Day 5 | Tortuguero | Arenal

Breakfast and departure from Tortuguero to Arenal Volcano. Lunch included during the way in Guápiles town. You will find in this area an amazing active volcano, a beautiful lake and a great diversity of wildlife. Arenal is most impressive at night, in the dark, burst of fire and red hot rocks are sometimes shoot hundreds of feet into the sky. Incandescent material cascades down the slopes, especially on the northwestern side. Afternoon at leisure to get to know the area and La Fortuna town. Overnight in Arenal. (B, L)


Day 6 | Arenal

Breakfast and a full day of activities for you to enjoy. In the morning experience a horseback ride to La Fortuna Waterfalls. This is a good combination of a horseback ride and a hike. Well train horses will take you until the entrance of the waterfall through pastures, forest and tall hills. The views of the Valley of San Carlos forest that surround it are spectacular. At the end of the road we will leave the horses and we will walk a natural trail to the base of the waterfall, a special place to relax and swim. In the afternoon take an adventurous ATV’s Tour (Quads adventure): The Quads Adventure ATV’s tour not only gives you the opportunity for adventure and fun but also includes nature and unique views of the majestic Arenal Volcano. Overnight in Arenal. (B)


Day 7 | Arenal | Monteverde

Breakfast and prepare for the Arenal Volcano Tour. The Arenal Volcano tour transports guests to the active northwest side of the volcano. The tour begins with a hike and depending upon which side of the volcano the lava is flowing, it is possible to observe a great variety of plants, wildlife, magnificent lava rock formations and the Arenal Lake! During the tour, our experienced guides will provide interesting and educational information regarding the history of the majestic mountain and the Arenal Volcano National Park. Lunch included. In the afternoon departure to Monteverde by car-boat-car, 1/2 hour by car from La Fortuna to the dam, then a beautiful 30 minutes cruise on the lake of Arenal, and finally a 1.5 hour scenic ride by 4x4 or mini bus (depending on road conditions) to Monteverde. It's a quick and nice 3 hour tour. The Monteverde Reserve is one of the most diverse and richest cloud forest in the new world and it has extensive trails which allow visitors to enjoy a rich diversity of flora and wildlife. Afternoon at leisure to visit the Monteverde town on your own. Overnight in Monteverde. (B, L)


Day 8 | Monteverde

Breakfast, activities included during the day: our famous Combo Tour which is a combination of suspension bridges, cables and platforms built in the cloud forest, that offers an opportunity to explore the forest canopy in a safe and easy manner, then rest of the afternoon at leisure to visit on your own the art galleries, cheese & coffee factories and hummingbird garden among others. Lunch included. Overnight in Monteverde. (B, L)


Day 9 | Monteverde | Manuel Antonio

Breakfast and to enjoy the Tour to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Feels like walking in a grandiose green Cathedral. Wind-sculptured elfin woodlands on the exposed ridges are spectacularly dwarfed, whereas protected cove Monteverde rainforests have majestically tall trees festooned with orchids, bromeliads, ferns, vines, and mosses. Poorly drained areas support swamp forests while parts of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, dissected by deep gorges, have numerous crystal clear streams tumbling over rapids and waterfalls. The variable climate and large altitudinal gradient has helped produce an extremely high biodiversity. Spectacular wildlife includes the Jaguar, Ocelot, Baird´s Tapir, Three-wattled Bellbird, Bare necked Umbrella bird and the famous elusive Resplendent Quetzal. In the afternoon departure to Manuel Antonio National Park and Beaches. Manuel Antonio is the most visited wildlife area of the country and it is the best area in the Central Pacific region. It has beautiful nature, biological diversity and amazing scenery. The main attraction are the white sandy beaches that slope into crystal clear waters, and fringed with tall forest that grows down to the high tide line. Rest of the day at leisure. Day 10 | Manuel Antonio

Breakfast and another beautiful day in paradise. In the morning experience the Manuel Antonio National Park Tour: Follow a professional guide through one of Costa Rica’s most famous National Parks. Spectacular natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere attract many visitors to Manuel Antonio annually, venture into exploring a different world, explore a park that gathers numerous species of tropical butterflies, birds, monkeys, snakes, orchids, etc. Learn about their life cycle, their special abilities and behaviors; enjoy the guided walk inside one of the world’s finest park. Come and enjoy all the wonders you may discover in this marvelous world that awaits you. In the afternoon take a ride on a covered boat through the complex and beautiful estuary system of Damas Island. The naturalist guide will describe a variety of biological relationships between many organisms in this delicate habitat, such as white faced monkeys, herons, snakes, crocodiles, iguanas, just to name a few! Day 11 | Manuel Antonio | San José

Breakfast and discover our Manuel Antonio coastline the way Christopher Columbus traveled and climb aboard one of Costa Rica’s fastest sailing experience. After feasting your senses and enjoying the tranquility of sailing these pristine waters, the catamaran glides into a beautiful, protected bay so you can swim under the protected cover of our tropical jungle. Snorkel along the coral reefs near the gentle coastline, and let your bilingual guides and naturalists help you discover our fascinating underwater domain. Lunch included. Day 12 | San José
