Located on Costa Rica’s amazingly beautiful Central Pacific coastline, the small village of Dominical is a surfer’s paradise where waves can reach over 10 feet high. Attracting surfers not only from across the country, but from all over the world, this village is a great place to lie back and enjoy the various activities and water sports found around here. You can kayak off the coast or enjoy some diving or snorkeling opportunities in the area. Visit the Marino Ballena National Park, which is home to a number of marine mammals like turtles and whales that come here seasonally to mate and nest. If you like, you can take a short day trip to the lovely Caño Island just off the coast. We have it all, you can choose from our one day tours from Dominical and enjoy all the many activities this area has to offer.

KAYAKS AND MANGROVES

We begin at low tide, after a professional safety talk we start paddling along side of the Moses passages, better known as the Whales' Tail. The Snorkeling It lasts one hour, you will be able to see a lot of fishes and coral species. Some marine species that you can see during the snorkeling are: giant conch, starfish, parrotfish snapper, damsels, eels, Moorish idol, surgeons just some of the many types of coral bariums also. After the snorkeling we do "kayak surfing" with the tide raising. It is fun and suitable for all types of people. Then we head back to the beach at high tide to enter an small mangrove forest called " The black lagoon", where you can see, sea birds, reptiles, mammals and learn about this habitat.

WHALES AND DOLPHINS COMBO TOUR

"Listen to humpback whales sing love songs to one another and feel the great sensation of watching a mammal that weighs more than 40 tons jump out of the water and splash its gigantic tail. Snorkel and observe dolphins, turtles, bicolor parrot fish and more." The Combo Tour is the best option to see the most of the Marino Ballena National Park. The tour departs from Punta Uvita Beach and visits the famous Punta Uvita Whale Tale, Ballena Island, Tres Hermanas Islets and Ventana Sea Caves. During the tour we search for Humpback and Pilot Whales as well as three different species of resident dolphins. When granted the opportunity, you might see and hear the Humpback Whales and or observe the acrobatic displays of the dolphins. We also visit the coral and rock reefs to snorkel and observe the wonderful marine wildlife. While cruising in the boat, enjoy the scenic beauty of the coastline of Costa Ballena; observe the diversity of pelagic birds in the Islets and the amazing caverns of Ventanas Beach (if conditions permit our experienced captain will navigate the boat through these wonderful natural water passages to give you a spectacular view!).

SAN JOSECITO BEACH DAY TOUR

"Lush vegetation, tropical birds, white sand beach, a real paradise for relaxing in the Osa Peninsula." The San Josecito Beach Day Tour departs from Punta Uvita at 7:00 a.m. and arrives 1-1/2 hours later to San Josecito Beach, a beautiful white-sand beach located in the lush OSA Peninsula, only ten minutes away from the Corcovado National Park. The tour consists of a guided hike, which will take you to a vantage point from where you can enjoy the magnificent views of Caño Island, the Pacific Ocean and the amazing Scarlet Macaw birds. Afterwards, you may do some snorkeling in the warm and crystal-clear waters of this paradise or just doze in a hammock on the white sand while our guide prepares a picnic lunch for you. During transit you may observe whales, dolphins, turtles, marine birds and fantastic views of the southern pacific Osa coastline. The tour returns to Punta Uvita at 4-4:30 p.m.

CROCODILE NIGHT SAFARI

"An adventure to discover the secrets of nightlife in the Terraba-Sierpe wetlands." Leaving from Dominical late in the afternoon to the town of Sierpe where we'll aboard the boat that will take us through the Mangrove Swamps. It's important to mention that this mangrove is part of the most important Conservation Area of its type in Central America. On this Mangrove we'll spend 2 hours browsing around for all the wildlife that there is. Meanwhile your guide while enhanced this interesting expedition, teaching you all about the animals, birds, reptiles, plants and trees and the environment in the mangroves.

SNORKELING IN MARINO BALLENA NATIONAL PARK

"Snorkel the ocean floor in crystal blue water and observe starfish, parrot fish, sea turtles, and several different species of coral reef amongst other marine life." Marino Ballena National Park is the second place with greater coral reef and fish diversity along the South Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. On the Snorkeling Tour, we depart from Punta Uvita and visit the great snorkeling treasures of the Marino Ballena National Park: reefs of Ballena Island, Tres Hermanas Islets and the Punta Uvita Whale tale. During the snorkeling you can find parrotfish, butterfly fish, blue surgeonfish, and a great number of starfish at a depth that ranges from 1 to 3 meters. During the tour you may observe whales, dolphins, turtles, marine birds and fantastic views of the southern pacific Osa coastline.

WAVES AND CAVES ON BALLENA MARINE PARK

Starting with 30 minutes drive from Dominical to the put in section in Piñuelas. During this 24 kilometer road trip, we will stop, if we get to spot some of the wildlife such as: birds, monkeys, sloth’s etc. You will see all this, along the most beautiful scenery of the Pacific Ocean and the exuberant vegetation of the coast. At the put in section we provide you the most professional and safe equipment a safety speech by a professional and bilingual tour guide. After that, the guide will illustrate the ½ hour easy paddling to where the caves are, with natural history of the park, than you will witness one of the most scenic place in the area, over 30 different caves and 2 of them are accessible -depending of the oceans condition- by kayak. After that we will go back to one of the most beautiful beaches of the area, Playa Ventanas, where we will set you up on a tropical way, with fruits and drinks. Steps away from our fruit stop, there are 2 caves for you to explore hiking through during the low tide, you can also enjoy and have fun surfing the waves at this beach on your kayak. After all this, we start to drive back to your hotel.

TERRABA – SIERPE MANGROVES

"Immerse into the intricate mangrove ecosystems to see another world." Terraba-Sierpe National Wetlands includes the estuary of the Rivers Térraba and Sierpe. It is one of the largest mangrove wetlands in all of Central America and serves as an important habitat of many species of birds, fish, mammals and reptiles. The tour departs from Terraba and enters the intricate mangrove wetlands allowing visitors an intimate magical experience with some of mother nature's most interesting flora and fauna. KAYAK TOUR TO HATILLO MANGROVE SWAMPS

Departing from Dominical, 7 kilometers north over Costanera road, until we arrive to Hatillos Mangrove Swamp, next to Guapil beach. On the way there, we make some stops to see sloth, toucans and monkeys. When we get to put in section, your guide will get your ready with a safety talk and will explain to you the grand significance of this environment and introduce you to and easy paddling thought the canals on 3 hours discovering the beauty and the great variety of fauna that this estuary offer.

CORCOVADO NATIONAL PARK

"Hike lush rain forests, howl with the howler monkeys, relax with a sloth, converse with the birds, soar with the butterflies, sing with millions of insects and tour 5% of the biodiversity on this side of the planet in Corcovado National Park."

The Corcovado National Park Day Tour departs from Punta Uvita at 7:00 a.m. and arrives approximately 11/2 hour later at San Pedrillo Ranger Station, Corcovado National Park. Upon arrival you will prepare for two guided hikes along two different trails and observe beautiful flora and fauna. The first hike takes around 3 hours and the second hike about 30 minutes. During the hikes you will be able to see many mammals such as spider, howler, and white-faced monkeys, sloths, coatis, raccoons, and tapirs as well as a great variety of birds, plants, and trees with over one hundred years of existence and in danger of extinction. After the first hike, we serve a picnic lunch near the ranger station and then we begin the second trek. During boat transit you may observe whales, dolphins, turtles, marine birds and fantastic views of the southern pacific Osa coastline. The boat returns from Corcovado and arrives to Punta Uvita at 4-4:30 p.m..

SCUBA DIVING AT CAÑO ISLAND BIOLOGICAL RESERVE

Approximately pick up time: 6:00 a.m.
Approximately duration: 11.5 hours

Departing early in the morning in our comfortable van, through the Costanera Highway, along the Pacific Ocean for about 1 ½ hours, up to the town of Sierpe. There, we'll stop for 30 minutes to get Breakfast (Not Included). After that, aboard a cozy & cover boat that will take us for the first 45 minutes, on Sierpe River, through the major concentration of Mangrove Swamps of Central America, meanwhile we may be able to see some of the wildlife on the river side, later, we get to the open ocean. When we get to the diving spots our professional Dive Master will briefly go over with the first dive itinerary and some instructions to make your dive even more enjoyable. After the first dive is done, we'll be dropped off on the island for a delicious Picnic Lunch, then will take you out for the last dive always hoping that the second one will be better that the first one. After this second part of the tour, we'll head back to Dominical.

CAÑO ISLAND BIOLOGICAL RESERVE

"Tour the Biological Reserve and best snorkeling destination in the south pacific." With turquoise blue waters and colorful coral reefs, Caño Island Biological Reserve is one of the best places for snorkeling in the South Pacific. In fact, this island has the healthiest coral reefs of all Costa Rica. The Cano Island tour departs from Punta Uvita at 7:00 a.m. and arrives at Cano Island 1 1/2 hour later. It is a magical trip and when fortunate you can watch whales, dolphins, and other marine animals while in transit to and from the island. Arriving at the island we take you snorkeling for approximately 1-1/2 hours in the best spots of the reserve, where you can observe a great variety of marine species, many of which are in danger of extinction. The tour includes a picnic lunch and the option to snorkel a second time. The boat arrives at Punta Uvita at 4-4:30 p.m.

CAÑO ISLAND SNORKELING AND TRAILS

Approximately pick up time: 6:00 a.m.
Approximately duration: 11.5 hours

Departing early in morning through the Costanera road along the Pacific Ocean, for about 90 minutes to get to the town of Sierpe. There we will have 30 minutes for breakfast. After breakfast we will be taking a comfortable boat ride for about 90 minutes to Caño Island, through the biggest mangrove swamps in Central America, chances to spot up to 3 species of monkeys, crocodiles, snakes, a great variety of birds, and also one of the biggest island in Costa Rica (Violines Island) also known for its wealth source of gold. From the Sierpe river mouth to the island we will get a view of some of the most scenic places like drake bay, Marenco Biological Reserve and part of Corcovado National Park. Out in the ocean there are good chances to spot the Humpback, Pilot, False Killer Whales and dolphins. When we get to the island we will spend about 1 hour snorkeling in the clear waters, then we will set you up a picnic lunch. After lunch we’ll give the following options:

  • Go back for a second session of snorkeling
  • Walk up to one of the trails of the island
  • Stay and hag out on the beac

After that, around 2 pm, we’ll start to head back, undoing what we did to get to the island.
